The 1st International Outsider Art Biennale wants to take the temperature of the differentiated art today and present the artists as individuals and not as member of a group. The Outsider Art Biennial will focus on differentiated arts and artist with learning disabilities and create possibilities for experiment, new thinking, fantasy and creativity. The aim is to gather and exhibit contemporary differentiated arts and to contribute to the exchange between artists, art lovers and collectors, to continue an extension of the international network and to stimulate research and create new possibilities in the field of Outsider Art.
The Exhibition
The exhibition will be shown at Rackstadmuseet during the period 26th of September until
8th of November 2009. All media will be accepted, from painting, installations, sculpture, video and photography to digital media.
A catalogue will be published to accompany the exhibition with articles and presentations of each artist.
Seminars
In connection to the Biennial there will be seminars about how to define "Outside and Inside" in art and culture as well as exploring different ways to measure intelligence and creativeness. The Biennial will also question if art produced outside the prevailing institutionalized art system can tell us something new about our self and our society? Workshops
Workshops with INUTI from Stockholm will be held from 28th of September to 18th of October 2009. You will find more information about the workshops on our website from 1st of February 2009.
Organization
Organizer of the International Outsider Art Biennale is the Rackstadmuseet in co-operation with the municipal of Arvika, University of Karlstad, the county council Region Värmland.
Conditions for Participation
The application form should be filled in and accompanied with pictures before the 1st of April. In April 2009 every artists will get information if they have been chosen (Click here »»). You can also send the application form by mail to:
